Exercise 5-4: Moving stand, send around cone

Moving stand, stand for exam, send around cone and return to handler.
After executing a moving stand, the handler will examine his/her dog, leave the dog again, and cue a reverse go-around a cone so the dog returns to the handler.

Purpose: Demonstrate ability to stop on cue, reverse directions and return to handler.

Equipment: Cone.

Exercise set-up: The team starts next to a cone with the dog in heel position. The exercise begins as the team heels forward 10 ft. (3 m), where the handler cues a moving stand with a verbal and/or signal. The handler proceeds 10 ft. farther (3 m) without slowing down or looking back and then turns to face the dog. The handler pauses for 2 seconds before returning to dog to perform a full examination (touch dog at shoulders, pet down back, sides of neck and body, mid point of back and haunches). Handler then returns back to the 10 ft. (3 m) point, turns and faces the dog again. After a 2-second pause, the handler cues a send around the cone behind the dog using a verbal and/or signal. After going around the cone, the dog returns to front or directly to heel position with no additional cue.

Scoring: Pass/Not yet!

Non-qualifiers: Dog does not heel with the handler or stop in a stand/stay when cued.  Handler stops moving when cueing the stand.  Dog does not allow the exam or moves away while exam is being done.  Dog does not go back around the cone and return directly to the handler on one cue.  Handler gives additional cues at any point during the exercise.  Video does not permit the exercise to be adequately judged.

Tip: None.
